Toyota Key Types We Cut & Program

Toyota changed transponder systems several times: 4C chips through about 2002, 4D chips from roughly 2003–2009, then G-chip and H-chip keys on later models, with the push-button Smart Key System appearing on the Prius in 2004 and spreading across the lineup. We carry blanks and program all four generations, plus Toyota remotes and smart fobs.

Popular Toyota Models We Service

Toyota Key Replacement by Model

Toyota Camry Key Replacement

The Camry is the car we cut more Toyota keys for than any other — there are simply that many of them in the valley. Transponders arrived on the Camry in the late 1990s with the 4C chip, switched to 4D around 2002, moved to G-chip keys with the 2012 redesign, and since 2018 most trims ship with a proximity smart key and push-button start.

The most common Camry calls we get: a single working key the owner wants backed up before it disappears, remotes with worn-out lock buttons, and 2007–2011 remote-head keys whose shells crack at the hinge. Shell swaps, spares and full replacements are all done curbside.

Can you replace a Camry smart key if I lost both fobs? Yes — we handle Camry all-keys-lost on site, including newer push-button models. How long does a Camry spare take? Usually 20–30 minutes once the technician is at the car.

Toyota Corolla Key Replacement

Corolla keys track the Camry's chip history a few years behind: 4C chips through the early 2000s, 4D from about 2005, G-chip on 2011–2019 models, and smart keys standard on most trims since 2020. Corolla blades are edge-cut until the newest generation, which keeps replacement costs among the lowest of any Toyota.

A Corolla quirk worth knowing: many 2009–2013 base models were sold with no remote at all, just a chip key — so if you want keyless entry, we can add an aftermarket-compatible remote or clone your existing key for the glovebox. Worn ignitions on high-mileage Corollas are also a frequent fix; we rekey or replace the cylinder in the car.

How much is a Corolla key? Chip-key Corollas sit near the bottom of our $89–450 range — call (702) 660-7877 with your year for the exact figure. My Corolla key turns but won't start the car — why? Usually a failed chip or a de-programmed key; we re-program it on site.

Toyota RAV4 Key Replacement

Early RAV4s (through the mid-2000s) used simple 4C and 4D chip keys, the 2006–2012 generation moved to Toyota's remote-head "dot" keys, and from 2013 the RAV4 picked up G and H chips before going largely smart-key from 2019 on. We stock all four generations in the van.

RAV4 owners most often call us about lost hiking or gym keys — the spare tire carrier era RAV4s are popular trail vehicles around Red Rock — and about smart fobs that stop responding after a battery swap goes wrong. Both are quick fixes at your location, including out at the trailheads.

Do you cover RAV4 Hybrid and Prime? Yes — hybrid RAV4s use the same smart-key platform; we program them the same day. Lost the only key at Red Rock? We do mobile all-keys-lost anywhere the van can park — see our car lockout service if you're locked out with the key inside.

Toyota Tacoma Key Replacement

Most Tacomas before 2005 use plain mechanical keys — cheap to duplicate, no programming needed. The 2005–2015 trucks carry 4D transponder keys, and third-generation Tacomas (2016 on) use H-chip keys with smart-key push-button start on upper trims.

Tacomas live hard lives: keys go missing on job sites, tailgate locks seize from dust, and ignitions wear from heavy keychains. We cut replacement Tacoma keys by code, extract broken blades from door and ignition cylinders, and rekey truck locks so one key runs everything again.

My old Tacoma key is worn and barely turns — can you help? Yes, we cut a fresh key by factory code rather than copying the worn one, which fixes the problem properly. Do you make Tacoma keys at job sites? Every day — the van comes to the truck.

Toyota Tundra Key Replacement

First-generation Tundras (2000–2006) split between 4C and 4D chip keys depending on year and trim; 2007–2017 trucks use the remote-head 4D "dot" key; and the 2018+ and current-generation Tundras run H-chip and proximity smart keys.

The classic Tundra call is a contractor with one master key for three vehicles who just lost it. As a NASTF-registered shop we pull Tundra key codes by VIN and cut from scratch, so an all-keys-lost situation doesn't cost you a tow plus a dealer week. Spares for fleets are priced per truck — see pricing.

Can you add a remote to a base-model Tundra? On most years, yes — ask when you call. Do you program the new Tundra's smart fob? Yes, on site.

Toyota Highlander Key Replacement

Highlanders moved from 4C/4D chip keys on the 2001–2007 generation to remote-head keys, then to smart keys — standard on most trims since 2014 and universal on the current model. Many family Highlanders in the valley have exactly one working fob left, which is the expensive way to live.

We make Highlander spares at your driveway in under an hour, replace cracked fob shells while keeping your original electronics, and handle lost-everything situations with VIN-code cutting and on-site programming — no dealer visit, no tow across town.

Is a Highlander Hybrid key different? Same smart-key platform — same job, same price. My fob works only up close — battery or fob? Usually the battery; if a new one doesn't fix it, we test and reprogram or replace the fob at your location.

Toyota Prius Key Replacement

The Prius brought smart keys to the mainstream — push-button start was standard equipment from 2004, years before the rest of the lineup — so nearly every Prius on the road uses a proximity fob with an emergency blade hidden inside. Early "brick" fobs and newer slim fobs are both programmed from our vans.

Prius-specific notes: a dead 12-volt battery mimics a dead key fob (the car won't wake up at all — jump the 12V before assuming the fob failed), and all-keys-lost on a Prius takes specialist equipment that many locksmiths don't carry. We do, and we bring it to the car.

My Prius says "key not detected" — now what? Try holding the fob against the start button (it reads through dead batteries); if that fails, call us to diagnose fob vs. car. Can you make a Prius key with both fobs gone? Yes — on site, same day.

Toyota 4Runner Key Replacement

4Runner keys run 4C chips on 1999–2002 models, 4D through 2009, then G and H chips, with smart keys on Limited and newer trims. The blade is edge-cut across most of the range, which keeps 4Runner replacements reasonably priced for a truck this popular.

Like the RAV4, 4Runners spend weekends at Valley of Fire and Lake Mead — and keys end up in the sand. We routinely meet owners at recreation areas for lost-key jobs, and we keep 4Runner blanks in every van. Worn ignition cylinders on 200k-mile 4Runners are another regular repair, fixed in the driveway.

Lost my 4Runner key out at the lake — can you come? Yes — see our Lake Mead service; call first for an honest ETA. Spare key cost? Depends on year and chip — quoted exactly before we dispatch.

Toyota Sienna Key Replacement

Sienna keys go 4C (1998–2003), 4D (2004–2010), then G-chip with remote-heads, and the current generation (2021 on) is smart-key only — every Sienna sold now is a hybrid with push-button start. Power-sliding-door remotes make the Sienna fob one of the more button-heavy keys we service.

Typical Sienna work: replacing fobs where the sliding-door buttons died before the rest, cutting spares for carpool backups, and lockouts with kids' gear (or kids' snacks) sealed inside. If you're locked out right now, our car lockout service opens Siennas damage-free.

Can you replace just my Sienna fob shell? Yes — if the electronics are fine we swap the shell and keep your programming. Do the sliding-door buttons come programmed? Yes, fob functions come programmed as a set.
